The Transitional Justice Coordination Group is calling for a panel discussion on transitional justice

The Transitional Justice Coordination Group (TJCG) in coordination with Syrian organizations working on transitional justice, accountability, and the documentation of violations in Syria invite you to attend a panel on transitional justice which will take place on the sidelines of the Geneva negotiations.

The panel aims to reiterate the principled position of Syrian organizations towards the issues of transitional justice, accountability, and human rights, and to remind the negotiating parties about the rightful demands of victims in Syria for justice and redress. The panel will present five key objective demands related to the transitional period in Syria that are necessary for establishing lasting peace and stability to the negotiating parties, the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria Staffan De Mistura and his team, and all states sponsoring the negotiation process

These demands include: (1) access to all prison and detention facilities in Syria and the release of individuals arbitrarily detained on political, ideological, religious, or sectarian grounds; (2) the establishment of ,a national and independent fact-finding commission to document serious violations of international law committed by all parties to the conflict; (3) fundamental and urgent changes to the heads of the Syrian security apparatuses; (4) the establishment of clear mechanisms to facilitate the voluntary return of refugees and displaced persons and to restore their property and (5) the establishment of a national reparations program for both individual and collective reparations to all civilians affected by the conflict.

The panel includes representatives from 18 Syrian organizations working in the transitional justice field. The discussion will be led by:
