PARIS, France (October 13, 2023) – From 8 to 11 October 2023, the annual UK Labour Party conference was held in Liverpool city hosting multiple events and was attended by a large number of invitees and participants including political figures, human rights and research institutions, civil society organizations, in addition to various economic activities.
During its participation, the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM) focused on the reality of the situation in Syria after years of conflict. It introduced important issues that are significant to the Syrian context to the attendees such as missing persons, torture, extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention, and the use of live ammunition and prohibited weapons against civilians.
SCM’s participation also touched on the importance of litigation and bringing individuals who committed war crimes in Syria to trial in the journey of combating impunity, which could pave the way for sustainable peace in Syria in the future.
It is worth noting that the UK Labour Party conference, which is held annually, includes a number of side events and activities, and is attended by a large number of political figures from within the United Kingdom (UK) and other European countries. It also includes the active participation of civil society organizations and hosts cultural and economic events to shed light on important local and international issues that the Labour Party takes into consideration within its action plans and decisions for the upcoming year.
