The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression welcomes the release of Syrian photographer and film producer Guevara Namer after the Office of Public Prosecution approved her release without charges today 15/12/2011.
Namer was detained on Thursday afternoon 8/12/2011 at Damascus Airport by the Passport and Immigration Office in Damascus. Namer was going to Dubai to attend Dubai Movie Festival along with several Syrian filmmakers and actors who were invited to attend the annual festival.
The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression has learned from sources close to Namer that she was detained over an arrest warrant issued by the Political Security Service in Damascus, reason remain unknown behind such warrant.
The Center, however, welcomes the release of Guevara Namer and calls to release all detainees and prisoners of conscience who were detained over expressing their opinions and fulfilling their duties the Syrian Constitution and international conventions guarantees them.
