State TV Engineer Detained on Suspicion of Shooting a Video

The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression has learned that security forces detained the Syrian engineer, Said Fahed Dairky, on 14/01/2012 after leaving State TV building in Damascus where he works.

His arrest came after a video appeared on social media networks that has been leaked from State TV building.

The video, believed to be taken from a balcony at State TV, shows that the number of pro-regime protesters gathered at Umayyad Square were much less than depicted by the local TV stations on the day Syrian president Bashar al-Assad delivered his speech on 11/01/2012.

In an attempt to locate the person behind shooting that video at the State TV building, engineer Dairky was detained on that suspicion. Dairky, however, denied that he is the person responsible of shooting the video.

The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression calls for the immediate release of the Said Fahed Dairky especially after receiving information that the detainee is being exposed to severe torture.

Dairky is a mechanical engineer who works at power division at State TV. He was born in 1970, married with three children.
