The 54th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) activities and events was launched on 11 September and continued until 13 October 2023, in which the Council discussed a range of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights,
On the margins of the session’s activities, and in the context of communication and interaction with states concerned with the situation of human rights in Syria, especially the member states of the Human Rights Council and non-governmental organisations (NGO), The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM) held several bilateral meetings with representatives of States Permanent Mission in Geneva in addition to international NGOs in consultative status with the Social and Economic Council (ECOSOC).
In cooperation with several partner organizations, SCM also organized a side event on the margins of this session to re-shed light on the situation of Syrian refugees in countries of asylum and the issue of refoulement. The SCM team also prepared and submitted six Oral Interventions in collaboration with several Syrian victim groups and associations (VA) and Syrian civil society organizations (CSO), five of which were on item /3/ and one on item /4/.
It is worth noting that during this session, no resolution regarding the state of human rights in Syria was issued. Furthermore, no reports about the state of human rights in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories have been filed and published under item /7/.
