Popular Kurdish singer at risk of torture

Still popular Kurdish singer Mohammed Omar Abdel-Rahman, detained incommunicado in an undisclosed location in Syria since his arrest on January 24, which is subject to torture and other ill-treatment. May be deprived of access to medicines needs to be addressed regularly.

Abdel-Rahman Mohammed Omar, a popular artist and singer Isdh Kurdish music (lead songs under the name of Buffy Salah), was arrested by military security personnel at his home in Aleppo in northwestern Syria, and taken to an unknown location. It is believed that he was handed over to security agents of political week after his arrest. He was arrested without warrant and without giving any explanation for his family, which have no knowledge of her whereabouts so far.

Little is known about Mohammed Omar Abdel-Rahman that he belonged to any political organization, and perhaps the reason for his arrest is to promote traditional Kurdish music, nothing else. In this case, Amnesty International considers him a prisoner of conscience and calls for his release immediately and unconditionally.

Suffer Abdul Rahman Mohammed Omar, diabetes, and was bedridden when he was arrested as a result of his illness, and there are fears for his health, he did not know whether he had allowed him access to medicines needed by the state of health. There were reports that Abdul Rahman Mohammed Omar was seen, accompanied by members of the political security force in a hospital in Aleppo at the beginning of February.

• expressing concern that Mohammed Omar Abdel-Rahman been detained incommunicado since January 24, and claim to disclose his whereabouts immediately;
• expressing concern that Abdul Rahman Mohammed Omar is being held because of the promotion of Kurdish music is not only, pointing out that if this were true, Amnesty International would consider a prisoner of conscience and calls for his release immediately and unconditionally;
• urging the authorities to ensure the protection of Mohammed Omar Abdel-Rahman from torture and other ill-treatment, and allow him to communicate with his family and a lawyer of his choice, and access to medication regularly and on the medical care he needs.
