Syrian Filmmaker Ghassan Abdalla Released

Sources close to the Syrian filmmaker Ghassan Abdallah told the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression that Abdalla was briefly questioned over similarity of names and was released on the same day.

Abdallah was going to Daraa for a family visit then was stopped at the second checkpoint near Sahnaya on Monday 22/1/2012 but was released after acknowledging that is was a matter of name-similarity.

Fimmaker Abdullah was born in 1965, he holds both the British and Syrian citizenships, graduated from Northern Film School and holds a master’s degree from the same school.

He works as a professor at the University of Metropolitan of Leeds in addition to the University of Damascus Faculty of Media as well as a director in the General Organization for Cinema, where he directed two short films in addition to the series "Khalid bin Walid" in 2007.
