A new international photojournalism contest, backed by the UN, boasts the largest cash prize of its kind: $30,000 for first place.<\/p>\n

Called ‘Yonhap International Press Photo Awards (YIPPA), the contest with the substantial cash kitty is organized by Yonhap News Agency, a South Korea news wire, with support from the UN.<\/p>\n

The competition, open to photojournalists worldwide including freelancers, there are three categories aimed at shedding light around U.N. goals: improvement of human living and well-being, enhancement of international peace and environmental protection and measures against climate change. Each category is separated into singles and stories.<\/p>\n

Yonhap claims the grand cash prize is the largest offered in photojournalism contest of its kind.<\/p>\n

In addition to the grand prize, the contest offers a host of other cash prizes including: USD$10,000 for one UN Secretary General prize winner, US$30,000 for six gold prize winners (US$5,000 per winner), US$18,000 for six silver prize winners (US$3,000 per winner),and US$6,000 for six bronze prize winners (US$1,000 per winner).<\/p>\n
