Sanad, initially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpj.org\/2011\/03\/journalists-detained-in-bahrain-egypt.php\">arrested<\/a> in March was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpj.org\/2011\/04\/more-journalists-held-in-libya-blogger-jailed-in-e.php#more\">sentence<\/a>d in April by a military court to three years in prison.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"more\" class=\"asset-more\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>&#8220;Today&#8217;s military court ruling hardly amounts to a reduction of the sentence since Sanad has already been imprisoned for nine months,&#8221; said Mohamed Abdel Dayem, CPJ&#8217;s Middle East and North Africa program coordinator. &#8220;Sanad, who was subjected to the inherently arbitrary proceedings of a military tribunal, should not have been imprisoned in the first place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The blogger began a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpj.org\/2011\/08\/jailed-egyptian-blogger-on-hunger-strike.php\">hunger strike<\/a> in August to protest his continued imprisonment and alleged mistreatment by military prison guards.
