The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM) is an independent, non-governmental and non-profit institution that aims for a society that guarantees freedom of expression, belief, human rights and access to justice. Since its establishment in 2004, SCM has worked to defend individuals persecuted because of their beliefs, promote human rights, and support and develop professional, independent and critical media.

The SCM currently focuses on human rights violations documentation, litigation for victims, and support for civil society and Syrian media/journalists. Our team members are based in Syria and neighboring countries, as well as Europe and the Americas, and our headquarters are in Paris, France.

The SCM is recruiting for a Documentation Officer who will help the Litigation Program with the archiving and classification of documents according the identified needs and objectives by SCM. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Take charge of relevant electronic platforms in accordance to the policies of the SCM
  • Archive, file, and classify litigation files using the program’s archiving system in a way that facilitates access to them
  • Adhere to set professional standards
  • Maintain a safe working environment that adheres to safety procedures and rules
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of beneficiaries in all cases and will all documents and data
  • Any other tasks assigned by the manager

Skills and Experience

  • University degree in law or equivalent
  • Fluency in Arabic, English and French languages
  • At least two years of experience in documentation and law
  • Experience in working with documentation tools and programs,
  • Ability to use relevant computer and internet programs and tools
  • Availability and ability to travel
  • Significant and detailed knowledge of the Syrian context especially regarding the involved actors in the conflict
  • A team worker but also able to work individually and under pressure in complex situations
